You can find a photographer nowadays just about anywhere – the yellow pages, google searches – even craigslist will render you dozens of options when searching for a photographer.  So how do you know which is the right photographer for you?

First off – let me share what’s NOT right for you.  If you find a photographer that is offering incredibly cheap prices (all of your images on a disc for $50) chances are pretty high that you’re not looking at someone who is legit.  The cost of any business is pricey.  A photographer has to take into account the cost of equipment (price it out – it isn’t cheap!), insurance, time and travel, editing time, product costs and marketing costs.  Someone who charges incredibly discounted rates is someone who does not realize the cost of business.  This also means that they do not have the experience to give you high quality work.  If they had the experience, they’d know how much it was worth!  Don’t leave your memories in the hands of someone who isn’t giving them their due value!

Beyond that, much of photography is simply art and art is subject to taste.  So what is your taste?  Do you like crisp, clean, bright colors?  Do you prefer quirky angles and funky editing?  Perhaps you’re more into soft, vintage style pictures.  Some prefer very posed, studio style pictures while others want in-the-moment, lifestyle captures.  Take the time to look through the portfolio of the photographer that you’re choosing.  If they don’t hold true to a style that you love, then they’re not the photographer for you.  By the same token, don’t expect a photographer to go outside their realm of artistic expression by asking them to do styles or editing techniques that they’re not comfortable displaying as their work.  If you want selective coloring, find a photographer who shows this in their portfolio.  If you love lifestyle photography, choose a photographer who specializes in it.

Each photographer is going to view a situation with a different artistic perspective.  Find a photographer whose work you love and who puts a proper value on your memories.  You will never regret having images of your family to cherish forever!

I was SO thrilled to get the call to do Baby Alexis’s newborn pictures.  Not only have I been dying to do another newborn session but Alexis is just the cutest bundle of little baby squish!  Consider yourself warned, though – this post full of adorableness and pink.  It is highly likely to give you baby fever!

Yes, those are sweet little crocheted baby leggings that she’s wearing compliments of my mommy.  If you’d like some of your own she sells them along with lots of other baby crocheted sweetness!  Send me a message and I’ll get you in contact with her.

Of course, I make babies smile!  Can you even believe the cuteness of those little baby cheeks?!  I can hardly stand it!

I warned you there was pink overload here!  Little Alexis is the only baby girl in her family so I foresee a lot of pink, ruffles, tu-tus, flowers and tea parties in her future.

I love how babies are like little contortionists.  I also love this sweet little pink puff hat.  You can get one for your own little sweetheart from Maria here.

Michelle – thank you so much for allowing me to come be a part of preserving those special newborn memories for your family!

I was absolutely thrilled when Tori’s mom got ahold of me and said she was interested in Senior Pictures.  I have been looking into setting up some senior sessions and Tori was the absolute perfect model to start off with.  Many schools have contracts with box store style studios, but there are other options than the typical studio style Senior Session.  At Tori’s session we were able to do photographs at several different locations to get multiple looks.  Of course, Tori looked stunning in every location and it was near torture to have to narrow it down to a few photos to share for the sneak peek!

This was the first picture of the session and was actually just a test shot to check the lighting and camera exposure. Just goes to show that Tori is gorgeous even in her test shots!

We actually did this session at 8am in the morning.  It usually takes me until about 11am to even put make-up on so I’m not sure how Tori pulled off looking so lovely right out of bed.
